BHOPAL: Vyapam scam whistleblower Ashish Chaturvedi was allegedly pushed off the stage by an event organiser during the closing ceremony of the prestigious Tansen Festival in Gwalior on Wednesday evening.
Chaturvedi, known for his role in exposing the infamous Vyapam scam, arrived on stage holding a portrait of music emperor Tansen to pay tribute. However, he was reportedly stopped and forcibly removed by a person associated with the event. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, Chaturvedi can be heard confronting the individual who pushed him, stating, “This is Tansen’s picture, not a bomb.” Despite the altercation, Chaturvedi managed to return to the stage, where he placed the portrait and garlanded it as a mark of respect.
Chaturvedi later took to Facebook to upload the viral video and accused the govt, along with other officials involved in the festival’s organisation, of gross negligence. He also questioned the intentions of the state govt, alleging a lack of respect for the cultural significance of the event.
Chaturvedi was spearheading a campaign to reclaim Tansen’s birthplace and meditation site from encroachers in Gwalior. Chaturvedi wrote letters to PMO and others claiming that he will only be able to "sleep peacefully" once Tansen’s property is free from illegal encroachment and restored to its rightful glory.
He accuses land mafias of occupying Tansen's meditation site near the Jhilmil River and his birthplace in Behat village, reducing both locations to a state of disrepair and pollution. He filed an RTI in which the archaeology department acknowledged that Tansen’s property has been encroached.
