MLA Vijay Mishra

of Gyanpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh, who was wanted for the past one week, was taken into custody from Tanodiya village in Agar district of

Madhya Pradesh

late on Thursday.

“The accused was reportedly passing from the area from Ujjain towards Kota through Agar when he was detained at the check post. He was asked for an identity card and he told police that he was Vijay Mishra. He does not have any record in MP and so we haven’t interrogated him. He will just be handed over to UP police,” said Agar SP Rakesh Sagar.

He added that they had received information from UP police that he was wanted in over 74 cases. Acting on the information, we set up check posts and following a tip-off, the accused was arrested.

Sources said that Kotwali police station in-charge took Mishra to an undisclosed location where he is being kept until the UP police reach Agar.

We have informed the concerned SP who has sent a team to take him back to UP on transit remand, the SP said.

On Wednesday, Mishra had released a video claiming threat to his life and his family. He also feared that he might be arrested or murdered any time.

In the video message, he alleged that he along with his wife and son were being framed in false cases, and Gopiganj police has made it difficult for his family to stay in the area.
