Violence at b’day party in Gwalior; 1 shot dead, 4 critical

A birthday gathering for BJP leader and former councillor Shashi Sharma in Gwalior turned into a scene of horror as violent clashes and gunfire broke out, leaving a young man shot dead and several critically injured, among them the victim's father, two brothers, and an uncle.

BHOPAL: A birthday gathering for BJP leader and former councillor Shashi Sharma in Gwalior turned into a scene of horror as violent clashes and gunfire broke out, leaving a young man shot dead and several critically injured, among them the victim's father, two brothers, and an uncle.
The violence was the result of a long-running rivalry between two factions for dominance in the area.

The feud often led to confrontations, but never as gruesome as on Sunday night when both sides gathered for the birthday celebration in Janakganj area of Gwalior city. Sharma wasn't at the party.
The confrontation erupted when the time came to cut the cake.
Kin of deceased severely injured
Victim Chhotu Rathore, 30, and two of the accused, Suraj and Kamlesh, got into an argument which quickly led to a clash. Chhotu's family members rushed to protect him.
They, too, fell victim to the attackers, sustaining injuries from knives, swords, sticks, and rods. Chhotu was allegedly shot by Suraj and Kamlesh. Police took the victims to hospital where Chhotu was declared dead .
Four of his family members are in hospital. Police have registered a case against Suraj, Kamlesh and four to five others.
Police teams are looking for them.
