Villagers rescued from gushing water at Kerwa Dam gates in Bhopal

The two had gone for fishing in the dam overflow stream and were stuck on a rock after sudden rise in the water at the reservoir. The rescue team used a fire brigade ladder to make a bridge and rescued them successfully.
SHO Ratibad SI JP Tripathi said that the two villagers were identified as Shiva and Kanji, are residents of Sarotipura village in Ratibad. Both are relatives and had gone for fishing at Kerwa Dam around 11am. They stood on a rock located on the path of dam overflow and started fishing.
Suddenly, the water level in dam started rising and three gates were opened due to the pressure. Soon the rock on which the duo was standing was surrounded by gushing water from all the sides. Locals spotted them stuck amid the gushing water and informed Ratibad police. The fire safety control room was informed to send the rescue team and divers.

Khare said that the firemen and divers took a ladder from the fire brigade and made a bridge to reach the rock where the youth were standing. Two firemen wearing life jackets crossed the water and brought the youth out safely. The operation lasted for more than an hour.
Khare added that people are advised not to go near water bodies in monsoon as the water level may increase suddenly and cause accidents. SI Tripathi said that police directs people not to go near water body at Kerwa Dam but they do not heed to warnings.

He said that the water level was increasing and there was risk that the youth could have been washed away.Khare said that the firemen and divers took a ladder from the fire brigade and made a bridge to reach the rock where the youth were standing.
