Bhopal: Two women sandalwood smugglers have been arrested in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.
Police are suspecting a big smuggling racket, though as of now wood worth Rs 1 lakh has been seized. There were a lot of complaints regarding smuggling of sandalwood from the forests of Sidhi. On April 7, Sandeep Shukla, a resident of Khadurna village, had lodged a complaint at Mijhli police station.
Subsequently, police started investigations and two women Eskhel Gond, 32, and Sulochana Gond, 34, were arrested on April 9. Sandalwood worth Rs 1 lakh was recovered from their possession. "We have taken both of them on remand and investigations are underway to unearth the entire nexus, if any, of sandalwood smuggling racket," SP Sidhi Abid Khan told TOI. The recovered sandalwood is of the forests in the Sidhi district, he added.
