BHOPAL: At least two villagers were injured from gunshots in pre-poll violence in two tribal villages in Vijaypur assembly seat of MP’s Sheopur district on Monday night, triggering a war of words between Congress and BJP. Both sides blame each other. The two villages that were attacked — Dhanaycha and Dangpura — are around 200km west of Gwalior and close to the Chambal riverbank that acts as the Rajasthan border.

Around 8pm on Monday — a couple of hours after campaigning for the bypoll ended — eight armed men drove into Dhanaycha village on motorbikes and began threatening villagers to hand over their voter slips. The villagers resisted, and the goons attacked.

“They fired from countrymade weapons. Two villagers were injured,” Sheopur subdivisional police officer Rajeev Kumar Gupta told TOI.
