NEW DELHI: At least five people were killed, and 12 others injured in two separate accidents involving heavy vehicles in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district, police said on Sunday.
The first incident occurred early Sunday morning around 7am near Hanuman Dol on Betul-Parasia Road, where a tractor-trolley carrying laborers overturned, resulting in two deaths and injuring 12 others.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Kamla Joshi, the victims, residents of Bakud and Dulara villages in Ghoradongri tehsil, had recently returned from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, where they had been working in a factory. District Collector Narendra Raghuvanshi said one of the critically injured has been referred to Bhopal for advanced treatment.
In a separate incident, three people lost their lives when a fertilizer-laden truck hit their two-wheeler on the Betul-Athner road late Saturday night, around 11 PM, near Bharkawadi village. The victims, identified as Vijay (35), Krishna Dhurve (20), and Raghunath Sareyam (38), were pronounced dead at the hospital.
The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, and a case has been registered against him, according to Betul Bazar police station in-charge Anjana Dhurve.
