Leopard cub brought to Van Vihar for treatment dies
Bhopal: ‘Veer', a male leopard cub, which was rescued by the Chhindwara Forest Division and brought to Van Vihar for treatment on Feb 6, 2023, died at the national park on Monday. The cub was extremely weak and unable to move, with its rear limbs being non-functional.Assistant director Van Vihar Sunil Kumar Sinha said that when the cub was rescued it was three months old. Despite continuous treatment by Van Vihar wildlife veterinarian Dr Atul Gupta, in consultation with specialists, the cub showed no significant improvement. The leopard cub was unable to walk due to extreme weakness in its limbs.He said that the post-mortem of the deceased cub was conducted on Tuesday by a joint team of wildlife experts including Dr Gupta, Dr Hamza Nadeem from Van Vihar and Dr Rajat Kulkarni from Wildlife SOS Van Vihar. Samples from the cub were collected and sent for further examination to the School of Wildlife Forensic and Health in Jabalpur, and DI Lab in Bhopal. After the post-mortem, the cub was cremated in accordance with regulations in the presence of senior officials and staff at Van Vihar National Park.
