BHOPAL: Traffic between Board Office square to Arera Hills and Subhash Nagar will be impacted for the month due to diversions as sections of the road will be closed for metro construction work. The diversions that are in place will continue till May 5.

Traffic has been diverted from Kendriya Vidyalaya till May 5 in view of the Bhopal Metro construction while traffic route has also been changed from April 6 near Board Office intersection.


Priority corridor of metro is under fast-track construction. Placing girders began at Kendriya Vidyalaya station under Bhopal Metro Rail Project in the middle of March. Five stations are planned in the route from Subhash Nagar depot leading up to Habibganj, according to Madhya Pradesh metro rail corporation limited (MPMRCL).

As per 2022 projection, cost of development of 27 km of project in Bhopal was pegged at Rs 6,941 crore. Of this priority corridor is estimated to cost about 20%.

According to reports MPMRCL has also invited bids for part design and construction of elevated viaduct, six elevated metro rail stations along Pul Bogda, a passenger interchange station between orange and blue line for Aishbagh, DIG Bungalow, Mandi and Karond.

Sustainable policy to boost earnings: Systematic planning and implementation of metro rail systems in a comprehensive and sustainable manner has been cited in 2017 Metro policy. It is aimed to boost earnings.

The policy mandates adoption of innovative financing through transit oriented development (TOD), value capture finance (VCF), commercial/property development, advertisements, leasing of space among other avenues. To incentivize metro rail ridership, the policy focuses on inclusion of provision of feeder systems, last mile connectivity through pedestrian pathways, non-Motorized Transport (NMT) infrastructure in metro rail proposals.
