BHOPAL: At least 20 kg of cannabis seized by police from drug traffickers was stolen from a court’s storeroom in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Thieves broke open the asbestos roof of the court’s store room – where items seized by police are stored – and decamped with the drug with them.
“Nothing else has been touched. The thieves made a hole in the roof and most probably a child was made to enter from the hole.
They took away around 20 kilogram cannabis which was stored in the room,” I G Sahdol range, K Babu Rao told TOI.
“Investigations are going on in the matter and things, like why only cannabis were stolen and others will be clear once the investigations are over,” he said.
The incident, police believe took place between Saturday night and Monday morning. It came to light on Monday when in charge of the godown, Mukesh Paraste went on his duty. Paraste was shocked to find the store ransacked. On further checking, he found that two cartons have been opened and some cannabis is scattered around, said sources.
Subsequently, Paraste informed police and a case was registered against unidentified men.
Sources said that in past one and half year, more than 15 quintals of cannabis have been seized by police from various locations of the district and all of it was stored here after it was submitted in court by police.
