Professional wrestler of international repute,
The Great Khali feels that states like MP have a big role to play in promoting the form of
wrestling
at the international platform. Known for his great height, The Great Khali was the eighth tallest professional wrestler in history in 2014 and fourth tallest in WWE history in 2017. Talking to TOI in
Bhopal
on Monday, he said that 12 wrestlers from MP are being trained under him, including a girl from Bhopal.
In a state like MP where conventional wrestling is deep rooted, will professional wrestling attract eye-balls? CWE
is not to counter the conventional wrestling. Its just a different kind of professional wrestling which is highly popular across the world. Like WWE, the CWE too will certainly attract the sports lovers across MP. Like other leagues, CWE will be a professional league format wrestling.
What is your connection with MP? In my academy, there are around 10 to 12 wrestlers from
Madhya Pradesh
who are learning the professional wrestling. A girl from Bhopal is also there and she is doing good. I can say that MP has great potential to develop the game. CM Chouhan and his team know how to support sports. It is good for people who are also keen to develop the sports in different parts of the country.
On what basis are you claiming that CM Chouhan and his team supports sports at a large level? I visited the shooting academy as well as the equestrian academy run by the sports and welfare department. I was impressed by the way these academies have been developed. I wanted to spend more time in Bhopal but owing to prior commitments, I have to rush. But I must say that MP has fantastic sports infrastructure.
What will be the format of the professional fights to be organised in MP? There will be 15 fights of the international level. Besides, there will be 20-25 local fighters. It will be a great event. I am hoping that MP turns to be a hub for professional wrestling in the future.
Will there be fighters from MP also? Definitely. I have planned to bring them on the fight platform. Such fights will start a new beginning in the state. I have also planned to give opportunity to girls as well. Bhopal's girl could be a part of that fight but I will disclose it later.
