Ten girls of aftercare home tie the knot
Bhopal: With tears in their eyes, the staff of the Shaskiya Pashchatvratti Dekhrekh Sangathan performed the ‘vidai’ of 10 girls of the aftercare centre as they started a new life by tying their nuptial knot with grooms form Bhopal, Sehore, Rajgarh, Vidisha and Dewas on Thursday. Many prominent of Bhopal visited the Narmadiya Bhavan to shower their blessings on the new brides and grooms.
Bhopal member of Parliament Pragya Thakur blessed the brides and gave gifts to start a new life. “I hope the girls will find all the happiness in the world”, she said. Commissioner of women and child development department M B Ojha, IPS Ashutosh Gupta from the Raj Bhavan, mayor Alok Sharma and representatives from the CM house also gave a number of gifts to the newly-weds.
Upasana Rai, official at WCD, said: “We are happy to have so many dignitaries bless the girls. Everything happened as planned. We hope that they have a great life ahead and find all the happiness in the world. Many of the girls also invited us to the reception parties that the grooms’ families will host for them in their villages. Bhopal mayor gave tickets to Vaishno Devi as a present”, she said.
“The dignitaries were present at the wedding as the family members of the girls and many volunteers had already told us that they will perform the ‘kanyadaan’ of the girls. Many NGOs also came forward to help us with the arrangement”, said Kirti Singh, superintendent of the aftercare home.
