Stage set for 100th edition of Tansen Fest;CM to inaugurate the event on Dec 15
Bhopal: Tansen's life saga is embellished with legends, blending fact and fiction. Stories of inducing rain with raag Megh Malhar and lighting lamps with raag Deepak showcase his mythical prowess. that's why this great classical vocalist, composer and musician, born in Behat (near Gwalior), is celebrated in Madhya Pradesh every year at Tansen festival that is internationally acclaimed. But this time, the musical soiree will be bigger, better and even more than majestic in scale, planning and performances, said officials. The magnum opus of classical music that will unfold at UNESCO music city, Gwalior, on Dec 15, will be inaugurated by chief minister Mohan Yadav.On this occasion, tabla exponent Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, will be conferred with the Tansen Award for 2023 and Indore-based institution ‘Saanand' will be honoured with Raja Mansingh Tomar award. The five-day event will see grandiose performances by some of the distinguished musicians and singers of classical horizon. "The festivities in Gwalior will begin with Gamak (curtain-riaser) on December 14. The unique selling proposition of the musical extravaganza is that in the centenary event, along with 150 Indian artistes, 10 acclaimed international artistes will also regale the audience with their divine performances," said principal secretary, culture and tourism, Sheoshekhar Shukla. He went on to add, "One of the major attractions of the festival would be an exhibition of 550 rare musical instruments on the venue. For all the Indian and foreign tourists attending the festival, there will be several interesting sidelights and attractions to keep them entertained through the day. City tours, heritage walks, food walks, wildlife excursions have also been planned for the attendees, along with many other activities."Before the main event, a host of musical rendezvous have already been planned in many cities of the country and across the state. This is the first time, the festival is travelling outside the state and there is already a lot of anticipation around the event, said the officials.
