Bhopal: State
Congress launched its ‘Gandhi Choupal’ programme across the state on the occasion of
Gandhi Jayanti on Sunday. The programme was launched from Bilkheda Mamori village on the outskirts of Bhopal. The Choupal began with garlanding of portraits of
Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was also born on October 2.
Former ministers Sajjan Singh Verma, P C Sharma and state Congress vice president Chandra Prabhash Shekhar also attended the programme.
Speaking at the choupal, Verma said that it was an attempt to reach out to villages and disseminate the message of peace, communal harmony and mutual brotherhood among the people. Sharma said that at a time when “hatred and rancour is being nurtured by the ruling dispensation”, Gandhi Choupal could become an effective tool to bring people together and create an atmosphere of communal amity.
Shekhar said that ‘Gandhi Choupals’ will work to take the principles of Congress to every household in the state. tnn
