Start school at 9am, let kids sleep: Education Minister Deepak Joshi

“We have decided that play schools and primary schools across the state will not be allowed to open before 9am. Children need proper sleep to stay healthy,” Joshi told TOI.

From next year, all primary schools — government and private — will be asked to follow the new timings. “School for tiny tots should necessarily start as late as 9am so that children can eat, sleep, come to school fresh, and return home happy,” Joshi said, pointing out that children are losing out on sleep at such a tender age due to the early timings. “This has to be improved at any cost,” he said. The new timing will benefit children aged five to 10.
