Bhopal: Two minor brothers were seriously injured after an old mobile phone battery exploded inside their house in Majhigawan village, under Semaria police station limits in Rewa district. The incident occurred on Friday, when the children were alone at home and reportedly played with the discarded battery.According to locals, the blast was so powerful that it was heard from a distance. 10-year-old Alok Kushwaha lost his thumb and 4 fingers in the explosion, while his younger brother, Anuj Kumar (8), also sustained injuries. The boys were preparing for their examinations at the time of the incident, but were unable to appear for their papers due to the injuries.

Both children were initially rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Smriti Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, Alok was later taken by family members to Jabalpur for advanced medical care."Both the kids were playing with an old cell phone battery and, as the 2 were alone, no one exactly knows what they did when the battery exploded, leading to injuries. The incident took place on Friday evening and both were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa, where their treatment is going on," Majhigawan panchayat sarpanch Motilal Saket told TOI.Family members said the old battery was removed from a mobile phone and kept in the house, underscoring the risks associated with improper handling of electronic waste.
