BHOPAL: A year after a tribal girl from Shahdol town was trafficked and sold for Rs 60,000 in Jalandhar district in Punjab, she was rescued and brought to her hometown on Thursday.
The accused was produced in a court on Friday.
"An accused who bought her was arrested. Another accused, who sold her was arrested a couple of months ago and the hunt is on for an accomplice," Shahdol SP Sushant Saxena told TOI.
"The minor girl was first taken to Chhatarpur and then taken to Jalandhar where she was sold."
On September 3 last year, a complaint was lodged at Bansagar police station that a 16-year-old girl was missing. During course of investigations, it surfaced that Ramnaresh alias Toran Patel, who is a resident of Chhatarpur coaxed the girl and first took her to Chhatarpur and later to Jalandhar. There, he sold her to Ram Kishore Mishra for Rs 60,000, who married her and was living with her since then, police said.
Ramnaresh was arrested in June and he confessed to his crime. Based on his inputs, police zeroed in on Ram Kishore Mishra and rescued the girl, sources said.
