SDM suspended for watching his staff thrash two youths

Bhopal: An SDM posted in Umaria district was suspended on Tuesday following the instructions of chief minister Mohan Yadav after a video showed the officer standing while two youths were being beaten. The video went viral on social media.The incident took place late on Monday evening, the sub-divisional magistrate, Bandhavgarh, Amit Singh, along with tehsildar Vinod Verma and their driver and staff were on duty for visiting temples on January 22. Sources said that two youths Prakash and Shivam who were in a car overtook the vehicle of the revenue officials. The youth alleged that the officials stopped their car and their men thrashed them for overtaking their car. A case was registered against both the officials and two others at Kotwali police station on Monday night.“A case was registered against the SDM and tehsildar and two others under sections 323, 294, 341 and 34 IPC on Monday night and investigations are on”, Umaria Kotwali police station in-charge, Rajesh Chandra Mishra told TOI.Meanwhile taking cognizance of the incident, CM Mohan Yadav wrote on social media, that ‘the incident of two youths being beaten by Bandhavgarh SDM is unfortunate. Instructions have been issued for suspension of the SDM. It is a ‘sushashan’ government in MP, this type of behaviour with common people will not be tolerated’.Following the instructions by the CM, divisional commissioner Shahdol suspended the official. “SDM Bandhavgarh has been suspended by the divisional commissioner”, district collector Umaria Buddhesh Vaidya confirmed.
