BHOPAL: Murder of a 32-year-old saw mill owner over a property dispute sparked off communal tension in Machalpur town of Rajgarh district on Saturday. District authorities clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to control the situation.
Tension began after news about murder of Badrilal Lovanshi, a resident of Machalpur town, spread.
Lovanshi was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour over a property dispute. Lovanshi's murder led to a clash between two groups, a district official said.
Police opened fire in the air to quell the violence. Rajgarh district collector Anand Sharma confirmed prohibitory orders were imposed. Additional force has been deployed in the town to keep a vigil, he said, adding that the situation is tense but under control. No arrests have been made so far, he said.
Inspector General (IG)
Yogesh Chaudhary told TOI, it was a property dispute that turned into a communal clash. "Situation is under control. Accused who killed Badrilal is on the run. We would also take action against those who caused damages to properties," he added.
