Times News Network
Bhopal: A 35-year-old woman from Misrod allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison and later accused her nephew-in-law of raping her. Based on her statement, Misrod police on Wednesday registered a case on charges of rape against the accused, who is currently absconding.
According to police, the woman lives with her husband in a village under Misrod police station limits. Her husband is involved in the vegetable trade and travels daily to the Mandideep wholesale market. The accused, a 33-year-old man related to the woman and living in the same neighbourhood, frequently visited her house. The woman alleged that he had been harassing her for some time and that she had informed her husband about his behaviour, but no action was taken.
In her statement to police, the woman alleged that on June 5, early in the morning, after her husband left for Mandideep and locked the house from outside, the accused entered the house and raped her. She further alleged that he threatened her with consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The woman said she informed her husband and other family members about the alleged assault, but her complaints were ignored. Feeling distressed and mentally harassed, she later went to stay at her parental home in Mandideep.
Police said the woman consumed a poisonous substance on June 9. Family members rushed her to hospital, where she survived and subsequently narrated the alleged incident to police.
Based on her statement, Misrod police have registered a case under relevant sections against the accused. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. The woman’s condition is stated to be stable and out of danger.
