JABALPUR: It only took less than 4 years to forget the martyr of Pulwama, feel the kin of one of the Pulwama martyrs from Jabalpur who paid homage to the departed soldier and also held 'kanya bhoj' in his memory.
"No administrative officer, no public representative came to pay their homage. We had established a statue of the martyr on our own expenses and we offered garland on the statue of my martyr brother, local villagers and ex-army men were also present. Then we organized a small, 'kanya bhoj' in his memory," the brother of martyr Ashwin Kacchi, who lost his life in Pulwama incident, Sumant Kacchi told TOI.
Ashwin, a resident of Khudawal village of Jabalpur district, was among the 40 who sacrificed their lives in Pulwama attack on February 14, 2019.
"We installed the statue by spending Rs 6 lakh on our own. The officers and public representatives who were present when the statue was unveiled, promised that a school will be opened in the name of the martyr and the ground where the statue of my brother Ashwin is installed, will be developed into a park in his name. But those promises, still remain promises, forget fulfilling them, no one even turned up to pay respect", he said.
A local resident Ujiyar Singh, who is a former soldier and was also awarded with 'sena padak' during his service, said, "I am deeply saddened by the attitude of representatives and officials towards a soldier who had sacrificed his life for the country. There was so much grief after the Pulwama incident in the country, a lot of politics was also played, but in just 4 years they are forgotten, it feels as if the grief expressed after the incident was also a show off". Singh also attended the ceremonies organized by the Kacchi family to remember the martyr.
