: A magisterial probe has been ordered into the death of a 60-year-old murder suspect due to alleged torture in police custody in

Satna

district of state.

Ramsiya Saket

, a resident of

Pathiya

, was detained by police for interrogation on October 11. He was released by police on October 20, said sources. Saket was ill due to the beatings and torture at police station, and had to be admitted at district hospital where he died during treatment on Thursday evening.

After his death, BSP MLA from Raigaon assembly constituency

Usha Saket

and her supporters, staged protests and subsequently a magisterial probe has been ordered.

The family claimed Ramsiya was tortured in custody and subjected to electric shock. He fell ill and was admitted to a hospital in Ramnagar after he was released by police.

On October 26, he was admitted to Satna district hospital, where doctors told family that there were serious injuries to Saket's liver.

The officer in question Azad Khan has been removed from active duty and a departmental enquiry has been initiated besides the magestrial probe, said an official.
