’s Prachi, who can’t walk as her legs are dysfunctional, will be the only entry from India in this category at the mega event. “I have done my homework. Now, the time has come to appear in the exam to prove that I have done honest practise at home,” said Prachi. She will appear in the competition on September 3.

Prachi’s coach Mayank Thakur is also confident of her win. “Just wait and watch, she will be the next big athlete in para from India. She took the same timing which is required to touch the podium. We are all prepared to win a medal in the mega event,” said Thakur. He is also chairperson, Para India Kayaking and Canoeing Association.

Secretary general, Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA),

Prashant Kushwaha

said, “We have seen her performance in the past few years. She has the knack to make wonders. All the best to her,”

Notably, Prachi was a champion para-swimmer for India, but switched to paracanoe at the behest of her coach, Thakur who realised that she had a better chance of getting to Paralympics.

Cooperation minister Arvind Bhadauriya said, “She has set an example for others. She will make the country proud at the Paralympic.” He also presented a cash award of Rs 25,000 to Prachi.
