BHOPAL: With t he Central Government announcing on Monday that old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes can be used until November 24 for certain transactions, the petrol pump owners have demanded to provide small denomination notes at the pumps to cope with the crisis.

"Petrol pumps in Bhopal are facing shortage of small denomination notes as people are not paying the same. We have requested the banks to provide at least Rs30,000 to Rs40,000 per day to each pump to cope with the crisis of small currency notes'', said Nakul Sharma, general secretary,

Bhopal Petroleum Multipurpose Association

.

He further said that problem of small currency notes has aggravated as people have exchanged old currency with the new Rs2000 note and demand only Rs100 denomination as change. As the petrol pump owners have their own limits to get smaller denomination, it often results into heated exchange between the owners and customers, he added.

The association has demanded of the government to solve this crisis at the earliest possible in the interest of both the pump owners and the public.
