Pet dog attacks 8-year-old girl in Gwalior, FIR registered against owner
Bhopal: Police have registered a case against the owner of a pet dog after it allegedly attacked and injured an eight-year-old girl in the Murar area of Gwalior. The incident took place in the Ghasmandi locality near Purani Kachahari, where the child was playing outside her house with other children on the night of May 28.
According to police, the dog, owned by a neighbour identified as Sunil Soni, was allegedly roaming in the street without a leash or muzzle when it suddenly attacked the child around 9 pm.
During the attack, the girl reportedly fell to the ground and sustained injuries after being bitten on the leg. Hearing her screams, family members and nearby residents rushed to the spot and managed to pull the dog away after considerable effort.
The injured child was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors treated her wounds and administered anti-rabies injections. Family members said she remains traumatised following the incident.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Murar police on Saturday registered a case against the dog owner under relevant sections related to negligence and causing injury. Police officials said legal proceedings have been initiated and a notice has been served to the accused.
Officials at Murar police station said the matter is under investigation and appealed to residents to ensure pet dogs are kept under proper control and in accordance with safety norms to avoid such incidents.
