BHOPAL: Over 200 people from three villages fell ill after consuming food from a bhandara in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. Around 60 people have been admitted to the civil hospital as their condition is critical.
The incident was reported from Mamoni Kala Gram Panchayat.
Officials of the health department team is examining the patients by setting up a camp in the village itself.
A school was used as a temporary setup.
Locals claim that there are one to two patients in every house and the number of patients may increase.
According to the information, a bhandara was organized in the village on Saturday for the installation of an idol.
The villagers took the prasad and leftover food from the bhandara home.
Everyone ate the same food on Sunday as well.
Around 2 am people started complaining of vomiting, diarrhea and stomach ache.
As soon as the information was received, the health department team reached the village on Monday morning and started treating everyone.
The health department has deployed a team of 6 doctors in Mamoni Kala, Ladippura and Tarpan Ka Purba villages.
Medicine experts from Shivpuri and nursing staff including BMO have been deployed in this.
According to district medical and health officers, the initial investigation has revealed a case of food poisoning.
However, officials say the actual cause can be confirmed only after investigation.
So far 180 have been examined, who have been found suffering from vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
At present, treatment of all the patients is going on and the situation is being monitored.
