Bhopal: A month-long joint training exercise of the National Security Guard (NSG) and Madhya Pradesh Police began in Bhopal on Monday, with focus on improving response to emergencies and security threats.
The exercise was launched at Lal Parade Ground, where NSG commandos carried out mock drills simulating terror attacks, hostage rescue and building intervention. The demonstration included close combat, room clearance and aerial entry operations, giving a live view of how such situations are handled.
CM Mohan Yadav, who attended the programme, said the state will spend Rs 200 crore to strengthen its police units. "A detailed plan has been prepared to upgrade the Counter-Terrorist Group. We will move ahead on this soon," he said. He also announced that a new training centre for disaster management and emergency response will be set up near Bhopal. "Given the changing nature of threats, it is important that our forces are trained to deal with any situation, whether on land, water or in the air," he said.
The chief minister said such joint exercises improve coordination between forces and help them respond better during real situations. "The NSG is a strong security force and its presence gives confidence that we are safe," he said. DGP Kailash Makwana said the training will help improve the skills of police personnel. "This joint exercise will strengthen coordination and enhance our ability to respond quickly and effectively in critical situations," he said.
Officials said the training programme will continue for a month, during which police personnel will undergo practical sessions and field drills under NSG guidance.
