Bhopal: A special NIA court on Friday sentenced two SIMI operatives to life imprisonment and two others to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with attack on an ATS team after some SIMI operatives escaped from Khandwa jail and the supply of explosives to the escaped SIMI operatives. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on each of the accused.
Four more accused in the case were acquitted for want of evidence. Spokesperson for the prosecution wing of police at Bhopal, Manoj Tripathi, said that Abu Fazal and Irfan Nagori were sentenced for 10 years of RI under section 307 of the IPC and section 25/27 of the Arms Act while Umer Dandoti and Mohammed Sadiq was sentenced for life under section 4/5 of the Explosives Act and section 16 of the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.
According to the prosecution, Abu Faisal and some more SIMI operatives had escaped from Khandwa jail on October 1, 2013. IG, ATS, received a tip-off that they would arrive in the border district of Maharashtra and MP. ATS team reached Sendhwa, where Abu Faisal, Irfan Nagori and Khalid Ahmed had an encounter with the ATS team. All three were arrested; pistols and cartridges were seized from them.
