BHOPAL: A 32-year-old Nagpur woman was drugged and raped by a social media friend in Bhopal on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman told police that her online friend asked her to visit Bhopal on pretext of providing a contractual teaching job.
The accused allegedly mixed sedatives in her cold drink and then raped her in a hotel in Hanumanganj.
When the woman regained consciousness she realised what has happened. Acting on her complaint, Hanumanganj police registered a rape case against the accused on Thursday and started investigation. The accused has not been traced yet.
Police said, the woman, 32, is a resident of Nagpur. She met the man online on a social media platform.
The accused, Ashok Patel— a resident of Vidisha district — offered to help her find a job.
Last week he asked the woman to visit Bhopal saying that he had found a teaching job for her on a contract basis in the state capital.
The accused received her at Bhopal railway station and book a hotel room for her at Hanumanganj and left. He returned after sometime and offered her a sedative laced cold drink. The man was drunk, said the woman. The woman fell unconscious after drinking the beverage and was raped, the woman told police. When she regained consciousness she was alone in her room.
Police said that the hotel room was booked under the woman’s name. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
