Multai comes alive as three-day Tapti Mahotsav gets off to a colourful start

Bhopal: The three-day Tapti Mahotsav, showcasing both folk and classical traditions, got off to a colourful start at Multai in Betual district on Saturday. The vibrant and culturally rich event, organised by the culture department of MP government, opened with a captivating theatrical performance titled ‘Mahadev’. Based on the life of Lord Shiva, the play was performed by 35 artistes and highlighted the importance of Kumbh Mela, concluding with the union of Shiva and Parvati. “We want to throw light on the life history of Lord Shiva and his divine play. The reconciliation of Shiva and Sati, followed by Samudra Manthan was part of the play. Also, the play focuses on the origination of Ganga, how Shiva consumed poison (vish) and was called to be Nilkantheshwar,” said Shirish Purohit, the director of ‘Mahadev’. Another major highlight of the event was a mesmerising musical performance by renowned Bollywood playback singer Raghav Chaitanya and his band. Explaing the significance of Tapti Mahotsav, Aditi Kumar Tripathi, director of the culture department, said, “As the town of Multai is known for the origin of Tapti River, considered as ‘Daughter of Sun’, so the event has been named as Tapti Mahotsav. It is mainly organized to promote the culture and tourism through magnificent performances and artists from MP and other parts of India.”On Sunday, the event will showcase folk musical performances, bhajans by folk artists, and the ‘Gudumbaja’ folk dance by the Indravati Lok Samiti from Sidhi.
