Bhopal/Jabalpur: A division bench of MP high court on Wednesday deferred hearing on a bunch of petitions for and against hike in

OBC

quota in state government jobs and admissions to education institutions from 14% to 27% for 8 weeks after the state government said that solicitor general of India will appear in the court for final arguments in the case and sought time for the purpose. The case will now come up for hearing on June 22.
The erstwhile Kamal Nath government had raised the OBC quota in state government jobs and admission in educational institutions from 14% to 27% through an ordinance and later a

Bill

was passed by the state assembly to this effect, replacing the ordinance promulgated earlier.
A bunch of petitions have been filed challenging the law giving 27% reservation to the OBCs and some in support of it.
The court is hearing all the petitions relating to OBC quota together. The case is at the stage of final arguments.
When the matter came up for hearing before the bench of Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice M S Bhatti on Wednesday, counsel for the state government sought time to present final arguments in the case and said solicitor general of India would appear in the court for final arguments in the case on behalf of the state government.
Following this, the court deferred hearing in the case by 8 weeks, placing the case for final arguments on June 22. Advocate Aditya Sanghi appeared in the case on behalf of petitioners opposing the hike in OBC quota and Rameshwar Singh for the state government.
