BHOPAL: A teacher in MP's Mauganj declared a Class III student 'dead' in the office register and went off on leave, ostensibly to attend the kid's 'funeral', reports Amarjeet Singh. The child is alive and his father, far from amused.
The teacher, Heeralal Patel, was suspended Tuesday. When TOI contacted him, he said, "I made a mistake, I was not well, I am a patient of diabetes." The incident took place at Chikir Ka Tota govt primary school in Chakrahan Tola village, 600 km from Bhopal.
On Nov 7, Heeralal told students that their schoolmate Jitendra Kori, son of Ram Saroj Kori, had died and he was going to attend his funeral.
He wrote in the official register that Jitendra was a "regular student of his class". Someone clicked a picture of this diary entry and circulated it on village social media groups, sarpanch of Chakrahan Tola, Rajesh Pratap Singh, told TOI. Jitendra's father got to know of it on Nov 28 and headed straight for the police station.
"It was Harivansh Kori, grandfather of student Jitendra, who died on Nov 7. But the teacher wrote Jitendra's name in school records as 'deceased' and left the school, saying he was going to attend his funeral," added the sarpanch.
