On January 7, the mother informed family members that baby had not woken up yet and there was no movement in his body. The family members took him to doctor, who declared the baby dead.

But last week, the boy’s father Prakash Gupta accused his wife Priya of their infant’s murder and the child’s body was exhumed for investigation. Prakash (36) was married to Priya (30) for five years. He alleged that for last 1-2 years, his wife’s behaviour towards his family had changed. She did not want him to help his parents or siblings financially and kept track of every paisa he spent.

In February 2022, when Priya got pregnant she would often tell Prakash to think about their child and save money for him. Prakash continued to help his family, which caused conflict between them. In October 2022, they had a healthy son, who died in January 2023.

During a conversation in March 2023, Priya confessed to killing their son. She said she was fed up with Prakash’s support to his family and taunts she received from others. Shocked by the revelation, Prakash approached police. On March 28, 2023, police went to the child’s grave and exhumed the body in presence of administrative officials. The body was sent to Rewa Medical College for autopsy and FSL team took samples for forensic tests. Priya Gupta is currently in police custody.TNN
