BHOPAL: Morena police seized 30 quintals of ganja worth Rs 6.35 crore on Friday, marking the largest drug haul in the region to date. The contraband, being transported from Maharashtra to Delhi in a mini-truck disguised as animal feed, was intercepted by the police. The truck driver has been arrested, and an interrogation is currently underway.

Police interception on NH-44

According to police sources, they received a tip-off regarding the illegal consignment, prompting the formation of a joint team from Civil Line and Kotwali police stations. The team intercepted the truck near Savitapura Canal on National Highway-44. Upon searching the vehicle, they found animal feed placed on top, concealing large packets of ganja underneath.

Suspicions of a larger smuggling network

The arrested driver, identified as Virendra, a resident of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, claimed that he had collected the truck from Nashik, Maharashtra. However, his conflicting statements have raised suspicions about the involvement of a larger smuggling network behind this operation.

Following the seizure, Morena police have formed a special investigation team to delve deeper into the case. Officials stated that they are working to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the smuggling ring.
