BHOPAL: Nearly 7672 wells had been constructed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MANREGA) at Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district.
Under MANREGA, the state government was running a Kapil Dhara scheme under which wells are being dug with an aim to improve the financial condition of rural people and to arrest their migration to cities.
In all, 8976 well construction have been sanctioned in Dewas. Of these, 7692 wells have been completed for farming. Besides, the work of construction 636 well is in progress.
A maximum of 2584 wells have been built in Kannaud development block of the district followed by 2422 wells in Bagli block, 1083 in Khategaon, 650 in Tonk Khurd, 632 in Sonkutch and 301 wells have been built in Dewas development block. So far, 2699 scheduled caste and 3401 scheduled tribe rural families have been benefited under the scheme. A sum of Rs. 96.83 crore from MNREGA funds has been spent under the scheme.
As many as 1763 beneficiaries of this scheme have also been provided irrigation pumps. These include 689 scheduled castes, 859 scheduled tribes and 216 other Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
