Man tries self-immolation before Gov's convoy

A 35-year-old man, identified by the police as a Manoj Tripathi, attempted self-immolation just outside the gates of Raj Bhavan when Governor Yadav’s convoy was leaving the estate on way to the state hanger.

Police deputed on duty outside Raj Bhavan immediately sprung into action, ripped through the man’s clothes which were on fire and doused the flames before he got majorly burnt.

Manoj Tripathy, a former right activist, claimed he was a member of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party). He attempted to set himself aflame demanding the arrest of Governor Yadav who was being taken to the state hanger in an ambulance.
Governor Ram Naresh Yadav is accused number 10 in an FIR registered by the STF in a forest guards appointment case. It was alleged that Yadav had recommended five candidates for appointment as forest guards and case was registered under section 154 of CrPC in February 2015. There were no criminal proceedings against him since he enjoyed immunity in the office of Governor under provisions of Article 361 (2) and Article (3) of the Constitution.
The self-immolation incident occurred around 5 pm Wednesday in the presence of a section of the electronic media that was standing outside Raj Bhavan to video record the leaving of Governor Yadav and arrival of Gujarat Governor OP Kohli who will assume additional-charge of Madhya Pradesh after a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday.
