Bhopal: A local court sentenced a person and his mother to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on charge of committing atrocities against wife in a 11-year-old case. Manoj Tripathi, public prosecutor who appeared in the case on behalf of prosecution, drew attention of the court towards complainant appearing in the court for hearing for over 50 times and her cross-examination continued for almost 4 years, seeking early decision in case.
Complainant, Zeba Khan, had lodged an FIR against her husband Abrar and his mother Ramkumari alias Rehana accusing them of taunting her for not bringing enough dowry and beating her up for the purpose at times. They used to ask her to bring Rs 5 lakh from her home, she said. She said that on two occasions, she brought Rs 50,000 each and gave it to them, but they continued to persecute her for more money. She had lodged a complaint against her husband and mother-in-law in the past also, but they took her home assuring to stop her harassment, but it didn't happen.
Police had charge sheeted Abrar and his mother under section 498 (a)of IPC for dowry harassment. The court of JMFC Ankita Shrivastava on Tuesday held them guilty and sentenced them to one year of RI and slapped a fine of Rs 500 on each of them.TNN
