BHOPAL: A woman killed her mother-in-law in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh for objecting to her late-night calls. She attacked her to death with a mogri (wooden bat used to wash clothes).
The incident was reported from Kaudiya village of Hata block and the accused is 19-year-old China Burman. Police said she used to talk on her cell phone till late at the night.
Her mother-in-law Nanni Bai, 47, asked her to stop these calls as she was not helping her with the daily household chores.
They had arguments over the same several times. On June 7, Nannibai complained to her son Ajay Burman about the matter after which he took her phone away.
On June 8 when Ajay was out for work, furious China took a mogri and attacked her till she fell unconscious.
She then called her husband Ajay and said that the mother-in-law had come home in an injured condition. Ajay had found his mother in a pool of blood on the bed. They took her to a hospital where doctors declared her dead-on-arrival.
The couple then went to Hata police station and reported the matter. Police sent the body for postmortem.
When police questioned the son and daughter-in-law, they got suspicious.
China was subjected to another round of interrogation during which she broke down and spilled the beans. She confessed to having killed Nannibai. She was arrested for murder and sent to jail.
