BHOPAL: Six individuals, comprising three teenagers and three children, drowned in separate incidents in the Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh within the last 24 hours.
In Panna district, three teenagers drowned while bathing near Brihaspati Kund waterfall on Sunday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Abhishek Varman, 18, a resident of Jigdha village in Panna, and Krishna Sharma, 18, and Twitrat Chaudhary, 17, both from Bharhut Nagar in Satna, who had gone for a picnic with friends. The third person remains unidentified.
Officials stated that the three entered the natural pond formed near the waterfall and went missing around 5 PM. Their friends raised an alarm, and police, along with SDRF teams, arrived at the location. However, fading daylight delayed the initiation of rescue operations.
In another incident in Bijawar tehsil of Chhatarpur district, three siblings drowned in a pond near Nanura village on Sunday afternoon. The deceased-Hari Singh Yadav, 12, Vinita Yadav, 10, and Bhan Pratap Singh Yadav, 7-had bathed in Ghuwai pond, located one kilometre from their residence.
All three were children of farmer Rampal Yadav and had gone out to bathe as schools were closed on Sunday. When they did not return home for an extended period, family members searched for them and discovered them drowned in the pond. Local villagers assisted in removing the bodies from the water and transporting them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
