Rain deficit dists in MP down from 18 to just 5 in a fortnight

Bhopal: Showers in the past few days have constantly improved the rain graph of Madhya Pradesh when compared with the past fortnight. On July 11, more than one fourth of MP was in a rain deficit. The rain deficit was over 20% or more in at least 18 places in the state.
The situation improved and the number of rain deficient districts came down to 14 on July 17. It further improved and the rain deficit districts count came down to 8 on July 25. On Sunday, only five dists of the state were rain deficit.
Monsoon in MP is from June 1 to Sept 30. MP received a total of 447.4 mm rain so far, while normal rain from June 1 to Sunday was 418.4 mm, making a surplus of 7%.
Meteorological officials point out that as per the general formula, 20 percent less or more rainfall is considered as normal. But good rainfall is required to fill the gap in places where rain deficient is more than 20 per cent.
July and August are the months when the state records a good amount of rain. Rainfall activity reduces sharply in September as it is the tail end month for monsoon, officials added.
There were at least eighteen districts in the state where the rain deficit was more than 20 per cent on July 11. The rain deficit districts were Balaghat, Damoh, Jabalpur, Katni, Narsinghpur, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Umaria, Harda, Khargone, Mandsaur, Narmadapuram, Raisen, and Ujjain.
The situation slightly improved and the number rain deficit dists on July 17 were Balaghat, Jabalpur, Katni, Narsinghpur, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Umaria, Harda, Mandsaur, Narmadapuram.
The rain graph further improved the rain deficit dists on July 25 were Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singruli, Umaria, Harda, Jhabua and Mandsaur. On Sunday, only Rewa, Satna, Singrauli, Umaria and Harda were the dists that were left rain deficit.
As per Met department, 990 mm rainfall is considered normal for the state and 1090 mm rain is considered as yearly normal rainfall for Bhopal. The state capital got 590.9 mm rain from June 1 to Sunday while normal rainfall till the period was 436 mm, making a surplus of 36 per cent.
Monsoon entered MP on 21 while onset of the southwest monsoon was declared over Bhopal on June 23. By June 28, southwest monsoon covered the entire MP.
Experts point rainfall would continue in the state and monsoon this year would be close to 110 per cent in MP.
Meteorological department, Bhopal circle, senior scientist Ved Prakash Singh said, El-Nino effect has largely been the same this time and last time. The reason for the good monsoon this year is less snowfall in the Himalayan region this time. It is good for the monsoon. The monsoon in MP this year would be over 106%.
