: A large number of farmers were forced to throw their agricultural produce in Lavkush Nagar in
Chhatarpur district
, after a weekly haat was cancelled because of the corona curfew imposed on Wednesday night. The poor and marginal farmers had no clue about the curfew and they proceeded to the market with their produce only to be directed to go back.
The marginal farmers threw vegetables on the road and left for their villages, some 10 to 30 kilometres away from the Lavkush Nagar tehsil headquarters.
Ramdin Kevat, a marginal farmer said that he was going back home and would walk down 20 kilometres all the way to village Harrai.
“I had hired a rickshaw to transport my produce. After reaching here, I learnt about the corona curfew. Now, I have thrown away all my stuff and have to take some loan to run my house for the next week,” Kevat said.
Rambharose Kushwah, another marginal farmer said that he had also thrown his produce after he was not allowed to sell it in the weekly market.
Vinod Kushwah, a local farmer said, “How come there is no Covid infection in neighbouring Damoh where bypoll is being held”.
There has been a steady surge in Covid patients in
Chhatarpur
district and the administration has imposed corona curfew till April 22.
