BHOPAL: The first battle lines are drawn in Madhya Pradesh. Congress released its first list of nine candidates past midnight on Saturday, naming former CM Digvijaya Singh from Bhopal.

By the time the list came out, there was no surprise about the Bhopal candidature because CM Kamal Nath had announced it in the morning.

Mandsaur is headed for a rematch between Meenakshi Natarajan and Sudhir Gupta. Natarajan, who was the Mandsaur MP in 2009, had lost by over 3 lakh votes to Gupta in the Modi wave in 2014.

The Shahdol ST reserved constituency will see an interesting contest between former BJP MLA Pramila Singh, who had switched to Congress just before the 2018 assembly election, and Himadri Singh, who left Congress to join BJP only three days ago. Tikamgarh will be contested by Kiran Ahirwar, and the candidate for Khajuraho is Kavita Singh. Madhu Bhagat has been fielded in Naxal-affected Balaghat. The pilgrimage town of Hoshangabad will be represented by Shailendra Diwan. In Ratlam, Congress has backed sitting MP Kantilal Bhuria, the tribal face of Congress in MP. Ramu Tekam will contest Betul.
