Madhya Pradesh DGP R K Shukla goes on six weeks leave ahead of polls

Director general of police

(DGP), Rishi Kumar Shukla, has proceeded on six-week leave ahead of state assembly election after he was detected with

cardiac problem

. He will be undergoing treatment at Mumbai.

Meanwhile, a senior home department official said that the state government would send a panel of names to the Election Commission of India (ECI) comprising three most senior IPS officials in the state to officiate as DGP in Shukla’s absence. They Would be V K Singh,

Maithalisaran Gupt

and Sanjay Chaudhary. Two other officers from MP cadre are on deputation to the Centre including Reena Mitra and Vivek Jauhari.

Shukla had taken charge as DGP on July 1, 2016. While intense lobbying was on in the state for the DGP’s post and even a senior officer (not chief of intelligence) was camping in Delhi, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called Shukla to his bungalow and asked him to take up the responsibility.

Rishi Kumar Shukla, of 1983 batch was posted as chairman of MP Police housing board before taking charge as DGP MP. Shukla has a tenure till August 2020.
