Bhopal: Semi-finals of various weight categories were played on Sunday in the 6th Elite Women's Boxing Championship underway at Tatya Tope Stadium.
Living up to her reputation, Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain entered the middleweight final with an easy win over Jigyasa Rajput of MP Academy. Apart from this, Nikhat Zareen of Telangana, Mahi Lamba, Manju Bamboriya and Shruti Yadav of MP entered their respective age group title bouts.
On the other hand, MP’s
Divya Pawar, Radha Patidar, Anjali Sharma, Jigyasa Rajput and Purnima Rajput will have to settle for bronze medals.
Tokyo Olympic medalist Lovlina faced Madhya Pradesh Academy's Jigyasa Rajput in the 70-75 middleweight event of the Boxing Championship being played at the Martial Arts Building of the stadium. In this, Lovlina won 5-0. Jigyasa got defeated in the match, but she drew the attention of everyone with her brilliant performance.
In flyweight 45-48kg, world champion Nikhat Zareen of Telangana also entered the final with a one-sided 5-0 win over Shivendra Kaur of AIP. Shruti Yadav of Madhya Pradesh Boxing Academy defeated Jyoti of Railways 4-1 in the semi-finals of the light middleweight category to
seal her place in the finals.
In light welterweight, Mahi Lamba of MP Academy entered the final with an easy win over Rinke Sharma of UP. In welterweight, MP's Manju Bamboria defeated Komalpreet Kaur of Punjab to book her ticket to the finals.
Anjali Sharma of MP Academy had to face defeat by 0-5 in the semi-final match in the minimum weight category at the hands of Railway’s Manju Rani. She had to be satisfied with the bronze medal.
In the weatherweight category, Academy's Purnima Rajput lost to Himachal's Vinakshi. In flyweight 50-52kg, SSCB's Sakshi defeated Madhya Pradesh's Radha Patidar 5-0 to enter the title bout, while Radha will now have to settle for a bronze medal. Easily defeated Divya Pawar of MP Academy. Divya will also have to settle for a bronze medal.
