'Passengers watched in shock': Lovers leap to death from train in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A young couple jumped into a river from a moving train and died by suicide in MP’s Chhatarpur district on Saturday afternoon.

While the man has been identified as Sanjeev Ahirwar, 20, of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, the girl is yet to be identified. They jumped from Howrah-Chambal Express near Harpalpur railway sta-tion when the train was crossing a bridge over Dhasan River, 200km from Gwalior and on the UP-MP border.

Other passengers watched with shock as the couple jumped from the train. Some villagers on the riverbank also saw them leap and informed police.

They tried to rescue the couple but the fall proved fatal. The bodies were recovered and sentto Naugaon Hospital for postmortem examination. Police are investigating the suicide pact.
