Light bypasses 3 villages in CM's home district
Semaliya Pathar (Sehore): Below the lantern; lies the darkness, this classic proverb fits well with the three villages situated just 60 kilometers from state capital Bhopal in chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's home district and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj's parliamentary constituency. Villagers of these three villages are yet to get electricity.
Chouhan's much touted Atal Jyoti scheme, under which 24 hour power supply is promised to all villages in the state, failed to bring 'jyoti' (light) to Semaliya Pathar, Jharkheda and Beel Kheda villages of Icchawar tehsil in Sehore district.

Residents of these villages are still dependent on kerosene lamps for light. "There are several children in our village who have not seen electric light. What does Atal Jyoti means for us and our children?," asks tribal Babu Jat, resident of Jarkheda village.
Another villager, Bhawani of Semaliya Pathar said, "Imagine our children don't know what they can become in life what career they can choose? We are at the end of our lives but government should at least do something for our children. I saw television for the first time when I was 20. And after so many years there is no much change, there are still many in the village who have not seen a TV."
"I have written numerous letters for electrification of these villages, but it hardly makes any difference. Government officials have only been giving assurances. I will fight till the end," local Congress MLA, Shailendra Patel told TOI.
He said, "I hope we will be able to bring electricity to Jatkheda and Beel Kheda in a few months."
Sushma Swaraj our external affairs minister, who won from this constituency with a whopping margin, promised 'acche din' and electricity, but did nothing, Patel said.
