Kolar Traffic Woes Show No Road Sign Of Letting Up
Bhopal: The additional lanes have not helped traffic congestion much in the commercial areas here as roads get choked with vehicles and commuters with complaints. Despite the expansion of Kolar Road to a six-lane thoroughfare, commuters and residents in this area continue to face significant traffic-related difficulties. The absence of traffic police personnel along the entire stretch has drawn criticism, as there is no proper management of vehicular movement in the area. Lack of road markings, streetlights, traffic signals have made travelling on the road after dark a difficult experience for commuters or even those just trying to cross the road. The traffic situation on Kolar Road has become increasingly challenging, particularly during peak hours in the morning and again in the evening. Local residents report that even with the additional lanes, congestion remains a persistent issue, especially near major junctions and commercial areas.Several factors contribute to the traffic problems. "Street vendors often occupy portions of the road, effectively reducing the usable width for vehicles. Additionally, improper parking outside shops and establishments further narrows the available space for traffic flow," said a resident, Ashok Shahu.Local business owners and residents have repeatedly requested the deployment of traffic police personnel at key intersections. "Proper traffic management could significantly improve the situation, especially at crucial points like the Kolar Square and near the bus stop. During Diwali week, the road witnessed heavy traffic," said Aditya Parihar, a resident of Lalita Nagar. The absence of traffic signals at major crossings like the Sarvadharma area and others has led to chaotic situations, with vehicles from different directions trying to move simultaneously. "This not only causes delays but also poses safety risks for pedestrians attempting to cross the road," said another resident, Omkar.Public transport users face additional challenges as buses often stop randomly along the stretch, disrupting traffic flow. The lack of proper bus bays or stoppages means that other vehicles must suddenly change lanes to avoid stationary buses.Residents suggest that implementing strict parking regulations and creating designated zones for street vendors could help alleviate some of the congestion. They also recommend installing proper streetlights and road markings to improve safety during evening hours. The situation requires immediate attention as Kolar continues to develop rapidly, with new residential and commercial establishments adding to the traffic volume."Construction progress has been remarkably sluggish, making the completion timeline uncertain. The roadwork remains partially finished, with sections still under development. The construction of the Sarvadharma bridge is yet to be completed. The situation requires immediate attention from both govt and administrative authorities," said another resident, Vipin Khare.A comprehensive traffic management plan, including regular police presence and proper infrastructure, appears necessary and urgent to address these ongoing challenges.
