Bhopal: Family members of Mohammad Azhar, a 23-year-old student who was arrested by NIA for his alleged links with ISIS, are waiting for his charge-sheet to move a bail application before Delhi court.
Azhar was NIA's 16th arrest from the so-called Indian IS module.
He was arrested from his uncle's house following leads from CIA on his linkages with Yusuf-al-Hind who Indian intelligence officers believe is a former Indian Mujaheedin (IM) member Shafi Armar, a resident of Bhatkal in Karnataka.
He was closely associated with Haridwar-Roorkee module busted recently by Delhi Police, said sources.
"NIA has 160 days to file charge-sheet against him. We are eagerly waiting for it. Once charges are framed we will move bail application," said his family members who met him in prison recently.
Azhar was sacked from Darul Uloom, Deoband, in December 2015 after he raised his voice against the management for inadequate facilities, said an official quoting his interrogation report.
He had joined the Islamic school in 2009 and completed the five-year Aleem course.
His parents were unaware of his activities. When they received information about his termination from Deoband and sought an explanation, Azhar said some schoolmates were jealous of him. Azhar's grandfather was in the army of Nawab of Bhopal and his father is a farmer with a clean record.
His family is in a shock after his arrest.
He was arrested by NIA in a joint operation with IB from Bhopal in February.
