JABALPUR: Twelve inmates ho are serving life term at Jabalpur central jail have made eco-friendly Ganesha idols.
The idols made by these inmates have been put up for sale at the main gate of the jail. And out of around 350 idols that were made by these inmates, 200 have already been sold, say jail officials.
Inmates, Shankar, Ganesh, Ram and Sarfaraz have led the idol making team, say officals. Deputy jail superintendent, Madan Kamlesh said, "These idols were prepared using seeds of Tulsi, cow dung and soil. These are 100% eco-friendly idols which could be immersed at home. And only natural colors have been used for painting these idols, no chemicals have been used.
We had put up these idols for sale at the main gate of the jail. Of around 350 idols that were prepared by the inmates, around 200 were sold till Monday morning. And, as majority of the people buy Ganesh idols on the day it is installed, we are hopeful that all the idols made by inmates will be sold. Proceeds from this sale will be deposited in the inmate welfare fund," Kamlesh said.
