Indore election results 2024 live updates: Shankar Lalwani secures landslide victory in Indore Lok Sabha elections

NEW DELHI: Shankar Lalwani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Indore Lok Sabha seat with 1,226,751 votes, leading by 1,008,077 votes. The first runner-up, Sanjay Lakshman Solanki of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), received 51,659 votes.

Indore Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 29 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, covering most of the Indore district. The seat has been a BJP stronghold since 1989. Shankar Lalwani is the current Member of Parliament, succeeding Sumitra Mahajan, who held the seat for eight consecutive terms and served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election for Indore took place on May 13 during the fourth phase of the elections, with a voter turnout of 61.67%. In a dramatic turn of events before the election, Congress party candidate Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination and joined the BJP, leaving Shankar Lalwani virtually unchallenged. The Congress has since urged its supporters to vote for NOTA (None of the Above).

Shankar Lalwani from the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious, securing 1,226,751 votes, which is an increase of 1,008,077 votes compared to the previous election.

Sanjay S/O Lakshman Solanki from the Bahujan Samaj Party came in second place, receiving 51,659 votes, a decrease of 1,175,092 votes. Pawan Kumar from the Akhil Bhartiya Parivar Party secured the third position with 15,210 votes, trailing the winner by 1,211,541 votes.

Several independent candidates, including Abhay Jain, Lavish Dilip Khandelwal, Ayaz Ali, Eng. Arjun Parihar, Ravi Sirwaiya, Mudit Chaurasia, Parmanand Tolani, Desh Bhakt Ankit Gupta, and Advocate Pankaj Gupte, also contested the election but failed to secure a significant number of votes. Comrade Ajeet Singh from the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) and Basant Gehlot from the Jan Sangh Party also lost the election.

The NOTA (None of the Above) option received 218,674 votes, which is 1,008,077 fewer than the votes secured by the winning candidate, Shankar Lalwani.

In the 2019 general elections, Shankar Lalwani of the BJP won the Indore seat with 1,068,569 votes, making up 65.59% of the vote share. His closest competitor, Pankaj Sanghvi of the Congress, secured 520,815 votes, amounting to 31.97%.

In the 2014 general elections, Sumitra Mahajan of the BJP won with 854,972 votes, capturing 64.93% of the votes. The Congress candidate, Satyanarayan Patel, received 388,071 votes, representing 29.47%.

The current political scenario indicates a strong position for the BJP, especially after the withdrawal of the Congress candidate. Key issues in the constituency include infrastructure development, urban amenities, and economic growth, reflecting the urban character of Indore. The BJP's long-standing influence and recent developments have further solidified its advantage in this constituency.
